Gordon Munro RSA

Initially fascinated by iron’s raw visual potential and elemental nature over the last 10 years Gordon Munro has come to understand his use of iron as a lens through which to see the world in new and unexpected ways. Munro is interested in our use of materials and the life of objects, how iron melted down from scrap to make sculpture will ultimately have yet another life as yet undetermined. Inspired by Friedrich Froebel his work is modular and remains alive, enabling future iterations to be shaped and added to as necessary. The concrete blocks in his work Ark resonate with Froebel’s play block Gifts building a sympathetic material landscape for the iron objects’ narrative to play out.
